‘Hope not Hate’ town hall meeting

The Denver "Hope not Hate" town hall meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 13 in the University of Denver’s Cherrigton Hall.

The event features state House candidate Joe Rice, professor Robert Lee, professor Liyakat Takim, and professor Carl Raschke.

To be discussed is the current tensions in U.S. — Islamic world relations.

Being held close to the fifth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the town hall meeting will focus on recent polls that show 90 percent of people in predominantly Muslim countries view the U.S. as the primary threat to their countries.

And an August 2006 Gallup survey of Americans found that nearly 40 percent of Americans admitted some feelings of prejudice against Muslims.

The Americans for Informed Democracy chapter at the University of Denver are hosting the town hall meeting. AID is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that states it seeks to shape a new generation of global leaders

The event is free and open to the public. Free refreshments will be served.
